I’ll take it!
The Daily News-Record (Harrisonburg, Va.) offered me a job today. I broke every rule every job coach has ever tried to teach and just about screamed “I’ll take it” before you could even say “negotiate.”
It worked out okay anyway. I’ve worked for three weeklies owned by the same publisher for a year and a half. I was full-time at the weeklies while still a full-time student. It worked (to put it mildly. It was more like an incredible blessing, to be real), given my flexible schedule and lax deadlines. But soon enough, however many days I had til graduation marked however many days until I would be capable of daily work. It was no secret I wanted this job.
And so I start Aug. 10, making a transition between the two whenever the weekly job is filled. I’ll split my time between a beat on Rockingham County (a smidge north of Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley) and covering spot news as it breaks in the city. I’ll be sure to keep you “fans” posted with some clips from the new job.
