We’re thinking buttons …

Thanks to all the new visitors popping into the site. This whole thing was envisioned as a means of professional contact, a way to keep other journalist friends and editors updated with my work, as well as my family since they’re so far away. I’ve never promised to be as savvy as the folks over at hburgnews.com, but I’m glad a few local folks have found something of interest over here too. They really run a great site and do a fantastic job keeping on top of the pulse of this community.
So not only is traffic to the site up since the fellas at hburgnews.com posted a link over here, but my co-workers, some of whom just found the site, have nicknamed me “.com” to celebrate my “local celebrity” …
Martin Cizmar, a features writer who sits across the news room and writes for Rocktown, thinks I should make hats. Hoodies maybe? What about buttons? Cizmar says they worked for a blog of his a few years back. Seriously.
I’m thinking mug cozies. So so not seriously.

Glad to hear you like hburgnews. Charlottesville has had a very active and well-connected “blogosphere” for several years now, and it’s about time H’burg had a community of it’s own.

I hope you’ll forgive us for being critical of the DNR at times. I think opinions tend to come out a little less filtered on blogs than they do in face-to-face conversations… Although we link to the DNR in the sidebar and that link is notably absent under your “what I read” category. ;)

I don’t know about buttons, though. Do kids still wear buttons? If you’re trying to market to JMU students, I’m thinking protective ipod sleeves are the wave of the now.

Thanks Finnegan!

I think any reporter who actually likes their job has greater loyalty to their readers than the company. I wish more readers would take that to heart. I’ve met many, many reporters who are fiercely devoted to producing a quality product, certainly not because journalism pays them well to do it, but because people deserve it.

Even so, the criticism rarely stings … I figure it means at least someone is reading. And we try to remember it’s not personal (usually). Besides, most reporters are just as critical of their own work, too. They just don’t blog about it.

hmmm … ipod sleeves? Would have never thought of that. I am officially the last (and therefore least cool) person on earth that hasn’t given in and bought an ipod yet.
