‘Here’s My Dad:’ For Bolling, Visit To JMU Mingles Family, Politics

HARRISONBURG – There’s no podium, slides or speech notes.

Kevin Bolling keeps it simple. “There’s not much introduction to do,” the James Madison University junior says. “Here’s my dad.”

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling stands up to take the center of the room. He’s removed his suit jacket, loosened his tie, and helped himself to a slice of pepperoni pizza.

Bolling made this special stop Tuesday evening to meet with the campus College Republicans.

He talked budgets and special sessions and transportation. But most of the hour was dominated by elections – the 2008 presidential race, Virginia’s open U.S. Senate seat, and Bob Goodlatte’s re-election bid to the U.S. House – everything but his own aspirations come 2009.

It’s been widely speculated that Bolling will make a run for governor, but he was mum Tuesday on any plans to move into the Executive Mansion, saying a decision hasn’t yet been made.
