The face of God

Art, they say, is in the eye of the beholder. So, it seems, is God.

When we asked kids at Vacation Bible Schools this week to draw us pictures of the Almighty, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Could we really get any meaningful depictions of God that would translate into newsprint?

It turns out, yes, we could, with a bit of help.

The kids turned in dozens of pictures of God and Jesus, scrawled in pencil and marker. The youngest were four, the oldest were 12. Needless to say, the cuteness factor was pretty high.

They drew plenty of pictures featuring beards and robes, but there were a few that threw me for a loop, and plenty that seemed to have theological depth well beyond their years.

Take a look.
